Evaluating the Long-Term Effects of Global Climate Change on Brazilian Agriculture According to Farm Size

Authors: Juliana Speranza, José Feres
November, 2010

Abstract:
This paper aims to assess the long-term effects of global climate change on Brazilian agriculture. In particular, it will address the following questions: (i) What are the long-term effects of global climate change in terms of land values in the distinct Brazilian biomes?; and (ii) do these effects differ according to farm size? In order to answer these questions, the hedonic approach proposed by Mendelsohn et al. (1994) is estimated for Brazilian municipalities.

Microenterprises after the funding ends: Two Steps Forward and One Step Back

Author:Simone C. Bauch

July, 2010

Abstract:
Community-based natural resource management has become central to international conservation efforts in recent decades, as part of a pro-poor environmental agenda (Adams et al. 2004; Berkes 2007). The goal is to simultaneously improve local welfare and provide incentives for conservation through economic development based on sustainable use of natural resources. A key assumption is that the best way to accomplish this is by working with groups of households in communities, associations, or other types of networks.
